A sofa or a corner sofa -  what to choose?

A sofa or a corner sofa -  what to choose?

Sofas and corner sofas are one of the most functional pieces of furniture. The former ones are most often chosen for a living room thanks to their mobility. The latter ones require more attention when you decide to buy one – you need to think whether you want a right- or a left-handed one, tall or short, big or smaller; as well as choosing where to put them: in your living room, kitchen or bedroom. Their functionality changes depending on the room that they are in, but in most cases you will find them in either a kitchen or living room.

Trends in decorating living rooms

A living room is often the heart of your home – this is where we host guests, relax after a long day at work, drink coffee with friends. We try to make sure that our day room is as functional as possible and that the furniture is arranged in a way that best suits our personality. When we design our living room, we ask ourselves whether we should go for a sofa or a corner sofa, or perhaps a sofa with armchairs, sometimes we may also consider long, classic table with chairs.

The heart of our home should definitely include armchairs, cushions or some other furniture that you can sit on. Chesterfield sofa could be an option. A small and short sofa would be perfect for a small living room in classic style. A coffee table, a sofa, armchairs and glass cabinet in brown colour will be ideal for people who love traditional style.

Magnus corner sofa placed next to a bigger bookcase inside a living room will work as a retro feature or a base element of another classic design, for instance 1920s style.

Scandinavian furniture is an interesting option for a day room. A sofa and armchairs or a corner sofa with cushions, glass or wooden coffee table will all create an atmosphere of calm and peace, perfect for meditating or calming down after a stressful day.

Living room – a place where we spend most of our time

When looking for day room furniture, it is worth to ask yourself whether you want a sofa or a corner sofa for your living room. It might not be easy to answer that question, so it’s important to consider your preferences and look for a piece of furniture that you will enjoy the look of. When decorating a living room, we recommend checking the colours of not only your walls, but also of sofa’s or corner sofa’s upholstery fabric. Darker upholstery will be a beautiful match for light walls, while lighter fabrics would suit darker furniture and accessories.

Giselle sofa will work great in a more spacious interior that you would like to make into a showpiece of your home. An elegant sofa with a tall backrest in contrasting colour would be an ideal match for walls in light tones.

Another great solution for a day room is Dillon corner sofa. Placed in a central point, it will become one of the most functional pieces of furniture. If you place it with its back to the door, it will allow you to hide there with a book or a cup of tea after a hard day at work. A corner sofa facing the door will also look beautiful.

A retro style arrangement in a very small interior or in a studio flat with many slanted features requires particularly bespoke solutions – Globe corner sofas will be great here. Choosing this original piece of furniture will add a lot of truly homely and cosy character to your room and will make your guests visit more often, just so they can relax on your soft corner sofa.

When choosing day room furniture, it is important to consider a few aspects. Firstly, we need to make a decision: sofa or corner sofa. Small sofas can be placed nearer the other furniture, such as cabinet or book case. Also, a soft sofa would be a great option for a large living room, in which you would like to create a little play corner for children – a small one next to a large unit with toys will be an ideal place for little ones to play or to have an afternoon nap.

Corner sofas in kitchen and living rooms

When choosing a corner sofa, we need to decide whether it will stand in a kitchen or in a living room. If we look for a kitchen corner sofa, we recommend going for those in dark colours. This will allow us to avoid dealing with difficult to clean stains.

In a kitchen that has an island in the middle, a corner sofa placed next to the window will allow you to move around freely and will make the room seem more spacious. Additionally, a corner sofa could also be the bold accent that will add to your day room not only a touch of originality, but also a characteristic note of retro arrangements that were popular some time ago.

We should remember that a sofa and a corner sofa in your living room don’t have to be mutually exclusive. If your living room will also function as a bedroom for your staying-over guests, then a fold-out corner sofa next to the wall will be a beautiful and comfortable sleeping space, while a sofa will be great as a place for sitting down to drink coffee in the morning with your visitors. Both pieces take little space and corner sofas often have storage for bedding, which makes storing it easier.

Left-hand corner sofas will work better next to the window, and right-hand ones next to the wall. Another advantage of this piece of furniture is that you can have it not only in your living room or kitchen, but also in your bedroom. Placed in the corner, it won’t take a lot of space after being folded-out, which means that you wouldn’t have a problem putting a baby cot next to it, for instance.

What for your living room – corner sofa or sofa?

When looking for inspirations for arranging your living room, we recommend thinking about your personal preferences. A living room is not only the showpiece and the heart of our home, but also our own sanctuary where we rest, spend time with friends while eating dinner or drinking coffee.

A corner sofa or a sofa will add a lot of character to your day room, and a touch of originality to other rooms, such as kitchen or bedroom. Thanks to a comfortable corner sofa or sofa, you will feel like a VIP in your own living room.
