Colourful living room poufs – overview of the most popular models

A living room pouf can often be an alternative to chairs or armchairs, or a stylish accessory in your living room arrangement. A pouf is also a comfortable piece of furniture. Their history dates back to 17th century. Apparently, a pouf was born after someone threw a cushion onto a stool. Today, it’s one of the most comfortable pieces of furniture to sit on.

What are the different types of poufs?

Choosing a pouf can cause some sleepless nights for those who are decorating their homes. Which one to choose? With or without a backrest? Big and soft, or a smaller one with a firmer seat?

The first model of poufs (Flair, Barto, Band) that we want to talk about are round, square or rectangle ones with no legs, such as: Baron, Lear, Puzzle or Charm. Their shape will usually resemble a cylinder or a rectangle. Their big asset is their storage space where you can put some small items.

Another model is a pouf that is essentially a large flexible cushion or a modular pouf, such as: Capitol. It will often have soft filling and you will be able to shape or mould it the way you want. Their unlimited mobility means that it’s ideal for a kids’ bedroom or as an extra seating space next to a coffee table. Most often, it will be upholstered with leather or with a fabric that looks like knitted cover.

Third pouf model is a medium-height seat on a metal leg. This pouf will be ideal for offices or lofts, shopping centres or lobbies and halls in cultural institutions.

The fourth pouf type is a bean bag, sako type of pouf that you can sit on. It is bigger and quite flexible, often upholstered with leather or another pleasant to the touch fabric. This model is a great option for those who love seats that you can fall into and would be ideal for kids’ bedroom.

Our fifth type are poufs with backrest. Sako or the one with a leg and backrest will look great in a living room in classic style. For a retro style living room, you could choose a longer and more rectangle, “old fashion” pouf – a rectangle seat on four legs.

Your living room pouf could also be a box with a lid, where you can store all the bits and bobs, think of models such as: Pepe or Ludo. This type of pouf will be perfect for children’s bedrooms and living rooms, especially if you don’t have a space for an extra storage unit.

What to consider when choosing living room poufs?

Living room poufs – which ones to choose? The first aspect to think about is the style, in which you’ve decorated your living room. In a day room in glamour style, an elegant living room pouf will look stunning. Chesterfield or Elios 50 four-legged rectangle pouf will be a good choice of a living room in classic style.

A square pouf to sit on will look beautiful in a living room decorated in a more austere style. Placed next the wall, it will become a perfect space where your kids can play or a place where you can meditate.

A day room pouf on metal (Flair) legs will be a good choice for those who love trendy furniture. The combination of steel legs with a seat in contrasting colour will add more character to your living room.

Another thing that is worth considering when looking for a trendy and functional pouf, is whether it has some storage. A pouf with a lid on is a great option. It looks a little bit like a box and, while being a nice-looking accessory to your living room, it will also allow you to store some of your bits and pieces.

Modern poufs are a great choice if you want your living room pouf to be a stylish accent in your room arrangement. A great choice will be Chesterfield Modern Wood or Magnus pouf. Small and shapely poufs are also a fantastic addition to your chairs of sofas. Round living room poufs will become a comfortable piece of furniture to sit on. Placed around a small table, they will allow you to create a chilled-out atmosphere in your living room.

Where to place your poufs?

Modern poufs are very mobile, which means that you shouldn’t have a problem finding a space for them. For a living room in eclectic style, colourful poufs will be perfect. Their upholstery fabric in contrasting colours will look beautiful with classic black, white or grey tones.

Colourful poufs are also a good idea if you need furniture to sit on for children’s bedroom. Upholstery fabric decorated with patterns and their soft filling will make your little ones fall in love with them. Their mobility and lack of sharp corners will guarantee kids’ safety.

Trendy poufs in fabric decorated with cartoon characters, or those that look like a basketball or a football, will delight your little athletes or sports fans.

Poufs can be placed around a low table, next to the wall in a semi-circle or next to the wardrobe. You could also put one in each corner of your living room. Such an arrangement would give your day room a touch of individual character and provide your guests with a comfortable seating place.
